My parents have been attending New Creation Church’s Chinese Ministry for many years. A couple of years ago, my 80-year-old mother was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She had no symptoms at all until her doctor advised her to go for a scan, which led to the discovery of the cancer.
Through recommendations from friends, we sought opinions from three different oncologists. All three advised that she undergo chemotherapy, explaining that the treatment would be palliative rather than curative, as pancreatic cancer is often detected at a late stage and difficult to cure.
During this period, while deciding which oncologist my mum felt most comfortable with, we were also waiting for the results of another blood test to determine whether immunotherapy might be suitable. Immunotherapy uses the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells and is less invasive than chemotherapy. However, fewer than one per cent of pancreatic cancer patients are found to be suitable for immunotherapy. Because of this extremely low probability, none of the oncologists recommended it and advised starting chemotherapy instead.
Just as we were still deciding, the test results came back, and they showed that my mum was suitable for immunotherapy! The oncologist shared that the probability was so low that my mum was only the second patient she had encountered in her practice who qualified for this treatment.
Immunotherapy has fewer known side effects compared to chemotherapy, and although there are limited clinical studies showing its effectiveness for pancreatic cancer, we decided to proceed, placing our full trust in God. During this season, my mum would also partake of the Holy Communion using Pastor Mark’s video as a guide.
Thank God my mum did not experience any side effects. After the second treatment, her cancer marker fell within the normal range! After the third treatment, scans showed that her tumor had reduced significantly, and some of the cancer cells had disappeared.
About 10 months ago, under the oncologist’s advice, my mum paused her treatment as her condition had improved. Her most recent scan showed no traces of cancer cells. Praise God! We continue to trust in God’s supernatural healing and believe in His miracle-working power.
