My son was born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD), a hole in the heart. As a pediatrician myself, my heart sank when I first heard the heart murmur with my very own stethoscope.

The hole in his heart was about 5mm, classified as moderate to large in size. This meant that my son might need open-heart surgery, as this defect could cause heart failure. When he was one and a half months old, he went for his second heart scan, and the cardiologist noted some strain on the heart and ballooning of the heart wall. This meant that his heart was showing signs of being overworked and tired. He was started on two medications to lessen the stress on his heart. This broke our hearts, but we continued to pray that his heart would grow well, work well, and that the hole would get smaller. Our biggest hope was that he would not need to undergo heart surgery.

On the weekend that he started on medication, we attended New Creation Church’s service at Marina Bay Sands Ballrooms as usual. During the service, Pastor Lawrence preached a message about not giving up when believing the Lord for healing. We remember him saying, “Even if it grows smaller by just 1cm, healing has begun!” It was like the Lord was speaking directly to us, and we claimed it for my son’s heart condition.

Over the next two months, we continued with the medication and were relieved to see him feeding well. At the next heart scan, the cardiac technician started the scan routinely. Then I saw a frown and a puzzled look on her face, and her first words were, “I need to call in the cardiologist to review this.” My heart sank. “How big is the hole?” I asked. Then she said, “I actually can’t find the hole anymore.” The senior technician and the cardiologist both carried out detailed scans and confirmed that the defect was indeed no more.

My wife and I could not believe our eyes and ears! We never expected the hole to be completely gone. To add to the beauty of the miracle, the cardiologist saw that natural tissue had grown over the hole. It was like God Himself had sewn a patch over it, completely restoring my son’s heart with His own hand. And as if that were not amazing enough, my son had some other minor heart defects, and every single one of them had been completely resolved. That very day, his medications were ceased, and he was fully discharged from any medical follow-up.

Thank you, Jesus, for this beautiful miracle—so much more quicker, so much more amazing, and so much more complete than we could ever ask for or imagine!
